Walzerzyklus (Waltz Cycle)
for oboe (or flute, or clarinet), bassoon, and piano
by Joseph Suder (1892-1980) – German composer
Joseph Suder was already 80 years old when he composed his Walzerzyklus. While we are used to a basically serious approach in his symphonic or chamber music output, his opera, Kleider machen Leute “Clothes Make the Man” already shows a fine sense of humor in the second scene, and the ballet music concludes with a lively waltz. The composer was very fond of his Waltz Cycle, composed originally for orchestra, then transcribed for piano and for piano duet, and in 1979, a year before he died, transformed into a variable string scoring- a serene conclusion to the composer’s late output. Alexander Suder undertook the editing of the score.
This edition has flexible instrumentation. The top voice may be played by violin, flute, oboe, or clarinet. The bottom voice may be played by cello, bassoon, or bass clarinet. Alternate parts are provided.
